Questions about percentage calculator

How do I work out a percentage increase?
Divide the difference by the original value, not by the new one. From 200 to 250 is 50/200, which is 25 percent — dividing by 250 gives 20 percent and is the most common mistake in the calculation.
Why is a 20 percent rise then a 20 percent fall not back where it started?
Because the second percentage applies to a bigger number. 100 rises to 120, and 20 percent of 120 is 24, so it lands at 96. Percentage changes never simply cancel.
How do I calculate marks percentage?
Marks obtained divided by total marks, times 100. For an aggregate across subjects, add all the marks obtained and all the totals first, then divide once.
What is a percentage point?
The plain difference between two percentages. From 5 percent to 7 percent is two percentage points but a 40 percent increase, and reports use whichever sounds better.
